The Food BackPack program for Kids needs your help

School is just around the corner. The Food BackPack program for Kids in Quilcene & Brinnon will be starting up again. We need YOUR help.

Donations are being sought for the Food BackPack program for Kids. What is this program?

A small group of volunteers are providing back packs of food for weekend meals for children at Quilcene & Brinnon School who otherwise would go hungry. Our team shops for food, fills the backpacks and delivers them to the schools for distribution.

The program started in February of 2014 providing meals to 16 children in the Quilcene School. The following school year (with your help) we expanded into Brinnon. The program provided weekend food to 28 children in Quilcene and 16 children in Brinnon. The need is great.

It costs approximately $6.50 to feed one child for a weekend, $25 for a month.

We received a partial grant from UGN but we need more money to keep the program operating throughout the school year. We believe the community will come together to help us raise the necessary funds. All monies received from our community are used to purchase food at the lowest cost possible.

Checks can be made out to “Quilcene Lions Club” please designate “Food BackPack for Kids”. Deposits can be made at US Bank, 14890 Center Rd, Quilcene, WA. 98376 or mail a check to Bonnie Douglass PO Box 577 Quilcene WA 98376. If you donate to UGN, please designate the monies to the “Quilcene/Brinnon Food BackPack Program”. The YMCA of Jefferson County is also accepting donations on our behalf. Please mail check to Quilcene/Brinnon Food BackPack for Kids, ℅YMCA, PO Box 1637, Port Townsend 98368.

Want to get involved? We meet on Monday mornings in Quilcene to pack the bags.

If interested or would like more information on the program, please contact Patti Herold, email pawherold

Together we can ease the hunger crisis right in our own backyard.
