A scrumptious red wine perfectly paired with just the right chocolate can bring out the romantic in anyone. The Olympic Peninsula Wineries will take that perfect pairing to another level this year, bringing together new release varietals and blends created with premium Washington grapes and decadent chocolate delights that will make you a better wine lover! Don’t miss the Red Wine & Chocolate Tour, which will take place over two delicious weekends, Feb. 7-8 and 14-16 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Enjoy a leisurely drive through the scenic Peninsula towns of Chimacum, Nordland (Marrowstone Island), Port Townsend, Sequim and Port Angeles where nine artisan wineries including Lullaby, a new wine destination, will delight your senses!

At Port Angeles’ Harbinger Winery, "We Do Fudge" will showcase a myriad of fudge flavors specially paired with Harbinger wines, including Dark Chocolate Sea Salt and Caramel Fudge with Dynamo Red; a Chocolate Pecan Fudge with Malbec; and a Blackberry infused fudge that complements just about any wine. Feeling amorous? Enter the Kitty Kat Lounge and experience the VIP Aphrodisiac Chocolate and Wine Sampling. Participants will leave with a new appreciation for chocolate and ambitions to be a better wine lover.

2. Camaraderie Cellars

Camaraderie Cellars, also in Port Angeles, will celebrate tradition with an infusion of something new. Known for delicious red wines, Camaraderie will feature its 2009 Merlot and some great blends. New to the line-up is Quadra, a red wine blend with a bit of port added — perfect for after dinner sipping paired with a Molly Babies chocolate cookie. Wood-fired pulled pork with cocoa-spiced rub is back by popular demand. This year the dish will include a new twist — cocoa shavings from Costa Rica. Special pricing for the tour weekends will help guests take the memories home.

Olympic Cellars
In Port Angeles, Olympic Cellars will morph into the late 19th century Moulin Rouge, where visitors can taste award-winning wines and elegant chocolates while lounging on velvet covered sofas under the red lights of Paris. De Novo Chocolates, known for imaginative flavor combinations, will be paired with the new release 2012 Zinfandel; the 2009 Merlot and 2009 Syrah, both Gold Medal winners; and Sailing Moon, a 2013 Port-style blend of four Portuguese grape varietals.

In Sequim, Wind Rose Cellars will feature two new releases, the 2013 Dolcetto and the 2012 Bravo Rosso, paired with Yvonne’s Chocolates of Sequim. A VIP Bar will offer additional wines pairings. Wind Rose will remain open with food specials, wine and live music from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. during both event weekends, continuing the fun into the evening.

Located in Port Townsend, Eaglemount Wine & Cider will share its newest releases including a Quince mead, deliciously sweet and filled with an abundance of complex fruit flavors; a delightful Dandelion wine; and Cabernet Franc. Visitors can also enjoy tasting crisp and refreshing craft ciders and additional award-winning wines paired with locally made chocolates, hors-d’oeuvres, and sweet specials.

6. FairWinds Winery

Port Townsend’s FairWinds Winery will once again feature what owner/winemakers Mike and Judy Cavett have dubbed the "tallest chocolate fountain known to man." Dark European chocolate will bubble out the top and cascade down the fountain’s sides enticing visitors to dip strawberries and other sweets into its ebony decadence. FairWinds Port O’Call will be paired with the chocolate fountain while other wine releases are waiting to be sampled.

Owner/winemaker Virginie Bourgue’s Red Wine & Chocolate Tour debut will feature four wines, the Rouge de Virginie First Edition (a Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blend); a barrel sample of her newest creation, a fortified red wine; Lullaby Viognier and Mi Amor, a sweet Viognier. The creations of two artisan chocolatiers, La Maison Jovaud of Provence, and Petits Noirs of Walla Walla, will be paired with the wines. During the tour, visitors can participate in a mindful artistic collaboration titled, The Ceiling of Wishes.

Owner/winemakers Ken and Judith Collins and local chocolatier Lynn Hamlin-LeMaster of the Port Townsend Chocolate Company have carefully paired a selection of dark chocolates, white chocolates and caramels with the winery’s newly released 2013 Black Cat Pinot Noir, Riesling, Gray Cat Pinot Gris, and Yellow Truck Apple Wine. Visitors can sip, savor and admire local art displays in the winery tasting room and upstairs gallery while taking in the fabulous surrounding view of Puget Sound, Whidbey Island and the Cascades.

Finnriver Farm in Chimacum will be serving-up "Love and Bubbles," a champagne cider cocktail featuring a splash of ripe red Raspberry Brandy Wine; a new Passionate Currant Cocktail, with Finnriver’s award-winning Black Currant Cider; and a rich, warm, bittersweet Cacao Brandy dessert wine. Locally baked tarts featuring Finnriver’s Raspberry Wine, Theo Chocolate and Fresh Breeze Cream will be served hot out of the wood fire oven.

You must be 21 or over to participate in wine tasting. The Red Wine & Chocolate Event is a self guided wine tour for one visit per winery that you may take in any order during the two weekends.

The Olympic Peninsula Wineries encourages responsible wine touring and recommends you have a designated driver in your group.
