Kids’ summer reading events at Quilcene Community Center – begins Tues July 9

Tuesday, July 9th at 2:00 p.m.Have you ever read to a dog and had it listen? Young readers are invited to strengthen their reading skills by reading aloud for 15 minutes to one of the specially trained dogs in the Read to Rover program. Registration required. Please register with Patti Herold by calling 425-502-1147 or email her at pawherold . While you’re waiting for your turn to read, enjoy board games and bingo.

> Tuesday, July 16th at 2:00 p.m. Make mythical creature fossil castings with Lisa Doray. Create and decorate a hand or footprint in sand and fill with plaster. When dried you will have a casting of your very own, imbedded with decorative stones.

> Tuesday, July 23rd at 2:00 p.m. Learn basic bike maintenance and repair from the staff of Port Townsend’s ReCyclery. Spread the love of bikes and biking. Bring your wheels! All ages welcome and tools supplied. Participants under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

> Tuesday, July 30th at 2:00 p.m. Create crazy hair grass heads with Lisa Doray. Fill a sock with soil and grass seed, create a face, water it and set it in a sunny spot. In a few weeks your sock head will grow hilarious hair that can be trimmed. We will also transplant mint and other plants to take home.

> Tuesday, August 6th at 2:00 p.m.Build hobbit houses with Lisa Doray. Using clay, sticks, moss and other natural materials we will create a dwelling that any hobbit or woodland sprite would find cozy.
> Tuesday, August 13th at 2:00 p.m.Celebrate our undersea garden by painting the flora and fauna found in Quilcene Bay. Pictures will be displayed at the Gardeners’ Corner at the Quilcene Fair. Let your imagination run wild!
